This Marinated Grilled Flank Steak will give you a juicy, flavorful flank steak with hardly any work!  This flank steak marinade is easy to whisk together, and can be made a day ahead of time so you can marinate your flank steak overnight.

What is Flank Steak?

Flank Steak is a lean cut of beef that is very flavorful.  However, because it is so lean, it can get dry and tough very easily.  For the best flank steak, it is best to cook it quickly and sear the outside.  Flank steak is not a steak you want to cook above medium – or 145 degrees F.

The best Flank Steak Marinade

This Flank Steak marinade is easy to whisk together and adds even more flavor to an already flavorful cut of beef. To make the flank steak marinade, you will need these ingredients:

  • Olive oil
  • Red wine vinegar
  •  Italian seasoning
  • Red pepper flakes
  • Lemon juice
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Garlic
  • Mayonnaise
  • Black pepper
  • Kosher salt

Whisk together the ingredients until fully combined. Place flank steak in a large zip top bag or shallow container.  Pour sauce over flank steak.  Turn the steak until it has been completely covered in the marinade. Marinate in the refrigerator for at least two hours but up to 24 hours.  The longer you marinate the steak, the more flavor!

How to Grill Flank Steak

Flank steak is best when it is cooked quickly over high heat.  You want to sear the outside to a nice mahogany brown but not overcook the inside.  Flank steak is best when it is not overcooked.  Cooking any higher than medium (145 degrees F)  will give you dry, tough steak.  For tender flank steak, medium rare (135 degrees F) to medium is best.

Grill steak over high heat, flip every 45 seconds for 7-8 minutes or until it reaches desired internal temperature.

What sides are good for Flank Steak?

Anytime I grill, I ALWAYS make my Best Ever Grilled Onions.  I also love grilling corn or other veggies. A pasta salad such as my Mediterranean Orzo Salad or Israeli Couscous Salad is always a great side for grilled steak.  If you love Grilled Flank Steak, be sure to also check out my Asian Grilled Flank Steak!

  • 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
  • Pinch red pepper flakes
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 garlic cloves finely minced
  • 1 tbsp mayonnaise
  • Black pepper
  • 1 tsp kosher salt

Instructions

  • Whisk together ingredients for marinade.
  • Place flank steak in a large zip top bag or shallow container.  Pour sauce over flank steak.  Turn the steak until it has been completely covered in the marinade. Marinate in the refrigerator for at least two hours but up to 24 hours.
  • When ready to grill, remove from fridge and discard excess marinade.
  • Grill steak over high heat, flip every 45 seconds for 7-8 minutes or until it reaches desired internal temperature.

Notes

The longer you marinate the steak, the more flavor!  I recommend marinating it overnight, but if you don't have enough time, be sure to marinate for at least an hour or two.
