You know that summer is really here when you start seeing cherries show up in the market. ย These bright little jewels grow really well here in the Pacific Northwest, so it is always a treat when they are in season. ย I grabbed a bag when I was doing my weekly shopping trip at Fred Meyer and decided to use some of them for this fun mocktail. ย I noticed that lots of Sparkling Cherry Limeade recipes use processed ingredients like lemon-lime soda and maraschino cherries. ย I generallyย prefer to keep those things out of my kitchen most of the time, so I wanted to create a recipe that used more simple ingredients.

I also love that these can be made individually so that they can be customized to everyone’s tastes. ย If someone likes their drinks sweeter, add more syrup, or if they want to keep the calories low, add less syrup and lime juice, to make it more of a flavored sparkling water. ย Of course I’m sure you could throw everything in a pitcher if you are serving a crowd and don’t want to make a bunch of individual drinks. ย Or better yet, make everyone make their OWN drinks – one less thing for you to do.ย What is your favorite way to use cherries in the summer?

This Sparkling Cherry Limeade uses only four real ingredients - cherries, limes, water and sugar! Cherry Simple syrup mixes with lime juice and sparkling water to make a refreshing summer beverage that everyone can enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound cherries pitted and sliced in half
  • 3/4 -1 cup sugar*
  • 3/4 cup fresh lime juice
  • lime wedges for garnishing
  • sparkling water

Instructions

  • Add the cherries, sugar and 3/4-1 cup of water (use the same amount of water as sugar) to a sauce pan. Simmer on low heat for 20 minutes, stirring to make sure that sugar fully dissolves. Remove from heat but don't strain the syrup, leave the cherries in there. Allow syrup to cool.
  • To make one drink, fill a glass with ice. Add 3-4 tablespoons of cherry syrup and 6 or 7 of the cherries from the syrup. Add 2 tablespoons of lime juice, op with sparkling water. Gently stir to combing, garnish with lime wedges.

Notes

*I don't like my drinks to be overly sweet, so I used 3/4 cup of sugar. If you prefer your drinks to be a little sweeter, use 1 cup of sugar.

      1. Have you ever tried canning it or freezing it? I wonder if you froze it in ice cube trays as individual portions. I might give it a try.

  9. These look so preeeeety, Meghan!! That colour! And I swear, anything served in mason glasses just makes it look so much more tempting. What a great way to use what’s in season and I love that everyone can control the sweetness to their preference. I prefer things on the less sweet side so I ‘d add less sugar. Pinning, of course. Great pics too, but the way ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. Zoinks! I freaking adore cherry flavored anything — except for marachinos. I love how this is tutto naturale. What a wonderful take on Italian sodas!
