These easy and healthy Peanut Sauce Chicken and Broccoli Bowl only take about 20 minutes to make, and is a dinner the whole family will love! Serve with rice or cauliflower rice for a quick and healthy weeknight dinner!
Happy Weekend guys! Before we get to these Peanut Sauce Chicken and Broccoli Bowls, let me tell you what I’m doing right now. I’m listening to the “Stranger Things” playlist on Spotify because as of last night I am officially obsessed with the show. Have you started/finished it yet? If you don’t know about Stranger Things, it is a Netflix Original Show that the internet is currently obsessed with. My husband referred to it as “Millennial Bait” because it takes place in 1983 and is heavy with 80’s nostalgia – which thrills both those of us that grew up watching 80’s movies and those who weren’t even born in the 80’s but are obsessed with all things “vintage”. Which, ugh, does it bother anyone else that the 1980’s are now considered vintage? ANYWAY. If you haven’t watched it yet, do! If you have – let me know what you think! But no spoilers please, we haven’t finished it yet. We showed remarkable restraint and did NOT watch the entire season last night. It was hard.
Moving on. Let’s talk about these Peanut Sauce Chicken and Broccoli Bowls. This is a result of my ongoing effort to incorporate more easy and healthy dinners into my life and this blog. What I love about this dish is that it is fast, easy, and healthy. You can serve it with regular rice or cauliflower rice. It is high protein and gluten-free optional. And it takes about 20 minutes to make!
This dish is similar to my Buffalo Chicken and Broccoli Bowls, except it uses a creamy peanut sauce instead of Buffalo sauce. Brown some chicken while you whisk together the no-cook peanut sauce, add the broccoli to the pan and let it steam for a few minutes, then pour on the peanut sauce and toss it all together. DONE. Then you can get on to more important things, like binging your latest Netflix obsession. Cheers, friends!

- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1-2 teaspoons chili garlic sauce to taste
- 3-4 garlic cloves minced or pressed

Instructions
- Whisk together all ingredients for peanut sauce except water. Add water, 1 tablespoon at a time until desired consistency is reached.
- Heat oil in a saute pan over medium high heat. Add chicken and season with salt and pepper. Allow chicken to sit undisturbed for a few minutes, until it starts to brown. Turn and allow to brown on the other side. Stir and continue to cook until cooked through.
- Add broccoli to pan and cover with a lid. Allow to steam until broccoli is bright green and tender, -4 minutes.
- Turn off heat and add peanut sauce, stir everything to completely coat in sauce. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve right away over rice or cauliflower rice.
Notes
**For gluten free, be sure to use a gluten free soy sauce!

Would it be possible for you to put your recipes on 1 page of paper instead of spread between 2? Its a huge waste of paper ! They usually do fit on 1 page and currently I need to cut diwn and join the 2 parts in order to add it to my binder. I need to have printed versions in order to try them.
By the way the recipes i have tried are incredible! Thank you so much
Meghan says
Hi Barbara – did you use the print button? That should make it more printer friendly. Also, you can uncheck the boxes for notes and nutrition information and that would make it shorter. I hope that helps! I’m so glad you have enjoyed the recipes!

I love peanut sauce and my husband loves spicy foods so this is a perfect recipe for us. Thank you for posting.
If the 80’s are vintage the 60’s must make us dinosaurs. Ha. Ha.
Meghan says
Haha, right!?! I’m so glad you loved the recipe!
Megan says
Can I make the sauce ahead of time?
Meghan says
Hi Megan – that should be fine!
Angie says
I made this recipe for my wife, our one year old twins and myself and it was the perfect amount! We all loved it but next time I will definitely make it spicier.

Hi Meghan, looks so delish, thank you so much! But what are the calories? Can we get the nutritional information as well? 🙂
Meghan says
Hi Lauren, I’ve updated the recipe with nutrition info.
Steph says
Made it today and added some fried sesame seeds to the sauce. It tasted amazing!! Steamed the broccoli a bit longer though. Is Stranger Things interesting and worth watching??
Meghan says
Hi Steph! I’m so glad you loved it, the fried sesame seeds sound like a great addition. I loved Stranger Things and found it totally addictive. It is a bit scary, but I normally don’t like scary movies and I still loved it.
Christine says
Made this tonight, it was delicious!! This one is a keeper for sure. Thanks!
Meghan says
Hi Christine,
Yay, so glad to hear that!
Amanda says
I JUST MADE THIS DISH AND IT WAS DELICIOUS! IT WAS BARELY ENOUGH FOR MYSELF AND HUSBAND SO I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND DOUBLING THE RECIPE!
I ADDED ONLY ONE TEASPOON OF THE GARLIC CHILI SAUCE AND IT WAS A NICE MILD SPICE, MAYBE ADD 2 OR 3 IF YOU LIKE IT MEDIUM spicy
I ADDED 3 tablespoons OF WATER AND I THINK IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER with 2 BECAUSE THE BROCCOLI RELEASES A LOT OF WATER.
LAST THING, I WOULD ADD SOME CHOPPED NUTS NEXT TIME, BUT IT IS PRETTY AMAZING and healthy!
Meghan says
Hi Amanda! So glad you loved it!!
Suzy says
Do you have nutrition info?
Becca says
Made this for dinner tonight… it is AMAZING. In the words of my boyfriend, “You could bottle that sauce!” Thanks for sharing!
Meghan says
Hi Becca, thanks so much! So glad to hear you guys loved it! My husband thinks I should bottle the sauce too 🙂
Laya says
I made this with green beans instead of broccoli and rice noodles instead of rice. The sauce is really delicious. It would go well with a lot of combinations.
Meghan says
Hi Laya! Yay, I am so glad that you loved the sauce! Trying it with green beans and rice noodles sounds great! Thanks for letting me know that you liked it!
Jess@CookingisMySport says
This looks REALLY DELICIOUS Julie. I could easily put away a big bowl of this chicken and broccoli over brown rice. Great job. I’ve heard about that Stranger Things show on Netflix, maybe after I finish the second season of Narcos I’ll give it a try 😉
Meghan says
Thanks Jess! I will have to give Narcos a try, I haven’t watched it yet.

Oh no. If all things from the 80’s are vintage, what does that make articles like me from the 70’s – antiques?
I’ve been on the look out for something like this supper bowl of yours. It’s ticking all of the boxes for me – protein and green veg with a wallop of tasty, nutty sauce. I love that you’ve kept the sodium in check – I can serve it to my kids without feeling bad about too much salt.
Meghan says
Haha, Right Jane! I can’t tell you how annoyed I got when I was in a hip vintage shop in Portland and saw my old lunchbox from 1st grade. What!?! I should have saved it! Anyway, I hope you love the recipe!
Sandi (@fearless_dining) says
I love the idea of this peanut sauce with all of that fresh broccoli….I can’t wait to try this recipe on my family 🙂
Meghan says
Thanks so much Sandi! I think peanut sauce makes everything better 🙂

I’m definitely going to need to check out this show. When the Mr. moved to Shanghai, he found himself with some spare time (especially on the weekend) so he started to binge watch all seasons of True Blood. Now that the show is over, he is on the lookout for a new shot to binge watch. . .I’ll be sure to pass along this reco to him.
As for this chicken . . .well. . .it looks incredibly tasty. . . and I’m loving that peanutty sauce. We’ve been weight lifting machines as of late. . .so we are always on the lookout for healthy, protein fueled meals. So this fits the bill perfectly. Of course, we’ll be taking ours with cauliflower rice. Definitely pinning this beauty.
Meghan says
Thank you so much Lynn! I loved True Blood, but I missed the last few seasons. Stranger things is something you can bonge watch in a few days, it goes so fast! I hope you guys love it, and thank you for pinning!

These sound (and look) fantastic, Meghan! A spicy peanut sauce is one of my favorite things (even better than whiskers on kittens) and there really isn’t anything better than a tasty, super-fast meal 🙂 I have to check out Stranger Things, it sounds awesome! I saw it on Netflix but I didn’t know what it was so I hadn’t checked it out yet, thanks for the info. Are the 80’s really considered vintage? Well, that’s disheartening…
Meghan says
I agree, Peanut Sauce is one of my favorite things too! And it is a bummer about the 80’s being vintage, right?
Puja Darshan says
I am a vegetarian, so I will not be able to enjoy the tastes of this recipe but I liked the photography and the presentation of your recipe!!!

Thank you Puja! I think it would be great with tofu as well! 🙂

This looks like a smart remake of the chicken and broccoli my mom used to make after coming home from a busy day at work. And that peanut sauce looks fantastic.
Meghan says
Thanks Allyson!
