What is it about chicken nuggets that are so good? They are one of the foods that I can rarely resist. I recently started making these Parmesan Baked Chicken Nuggets at home and I love that I can make healthy chicken nuggets at home.

How to make healthy baked chicken nuggets

To make crispy baked chicken nuggets, I like to use panko breadcrumbs. Panko breadcrumbs are a Japanese style flaky breadcrumb that will make foods more crispy than regular breadcrumbs.

To make Parmesan Baked Chicken Nuggets

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Brush a metal baking sheet with 1 tablespoon olive oil, set aside.
  • Season chicken well with salt and pepper, set aside.
  • Whisk together panko breadcrumbs, parmesan cheese, salt, pepper, oregano and garlic powder in a shallow dish.
  • In a second shallow dish, whisk the egg.
  • In a third shallow dish, add the 1/4 cup of flour.
  • One by one, add a piece of chicken to the flour, toss to coat. Shake off excess flour, then dip in egg. Allow excess to drip off, then toss in the panko breadcrumb mixture. Shake off excess and then place on the oiled baking sheet.
  • Repeat this process until all pieces of chicken are coated.
  • Bake chicken for 7 minutes, then remove from oven and flip. Return to the oven and bake for another 7 minutes, or until chicken is cooked though.

Tips for making the best Baked Chicken Nuggets

Season the chicken well with salt and pepper before starting the breading. If you don’t season the chicken first, the nuggets will be bland.

Use a heavy baking sheet like THIS ONE for even heat distribution.

Brush baking sheet with oil before placing chicken nuggets. This will help the breading to brown.

Flip nuggets half way through baking to allow both sides to get golden and crisp.
