Hello friends! Today I am sharing a recipe that I spent years perfecting. This is my recipe for the Best Thai Peanut Sauce Ever. I use this recipe as a peanut dipping sauce, as a dressing for salads, to make peanut noodles and anything else I think needs a punch of flavor from peanut sauce.
How do you make Thai Peanut Sauce?
This recipe for Thai Peanut Sauce uses everyday ingredients that are easy to find at the grocery store. Although many Thai peanut sauce recipes use coconut milk, this peanut sauce recipe does not. All you need to do is whisk together peanut butter with soy sauce, rice vinegar, lime juice, chili garlic sauce, brown sugar, ginger, garlic and water. This is a simple, no cook peanut sauce!
A few notes about this recipe:
- You can make this spicy peanut sauce by using more chili garlic sauce. You can sub sriracha if you have it on hand, but I prefer the flavor of chili garlic sauce.
- You can use honey instead of brown sugar, however I find that the flavor of the peanut sauce is better with brown sugar.
- Use more water to thin the sauce and use as a peanut sauce dressing for salad.
- What can you dip in this peanut sauce? Spring rolls, lettuce wraps, veggies, chicken, coconut shrimp, tofu. You can use this peanut dipping sauce for just about anything!

I purchased a small cup of Thai peanut sauce from my families favorite Thai restaurant.
Then I made this recipe. I did use a combo of brown sugar and clover honey. Added 1 Tb. water. Over the years my husband, son and I have tried making a good peanut sauce. Tonight my family thought this was the closest match to our favorite Thai restaurant’s sauce. I’ll still fiddle with it a bit more as it’s not spot on, but very close! This recipe will go in my file.
How long does this last in the fridge? I can’t wait to try it.
Hi – We usually finish it in a day or two, but it should last about 5 days in the fridge!
Perfect recipe! I swapped out honey for brown sugar and a touch more lime juice. This will be my go to peanut sauce recipe!
So glad you love them!
Sorry, also to add to my previous comment of this delicious sauce – I would use only 1 clove garlic. The lime juice really is important, and does make it pop – taste and you may want more. I would NOT substitute lemon – it totally changes it. Definately reduce sugar if you used peanut butter with sugar added.
This is the best Thai peanut sauce I’ve ever had. I liked the ingredients, but was very happy it met my expectations. I used it as a drizzle on an Asian style ground turkey/pork/mixed cabbage lettuce wrap and it was perfect. I highly recommend it as your go-to peanut sauce. IThanks for the recipe!
I would like to know if it can be frozen? I typically make a lot of the lettuce wrap filling and freeze some, so would be nice to also freeze some peanut sauce. Thanks!
Hi Sharon – I’m so glad you loved it! I have not tried freezing it so I can’t be sure. I think it is possible that it wouldn’t completely freeze due to the consistency, but I haven’t tested it. If you give it a try, let us know!
Fantastic recipe!!!! It’s great on its own, and it’s also a great base to customize to your preferences. I love extra lime, and can’t get enough ginger.
So glad you love it!
Thank you for your recipe. Definitely only 1 Tablespoon of sugar required 😊
So glad you love it
Wonderful. Made it more than 5 times at this point!
yay, so glad to hear that!
This is our go-to peanut sauce! we like to put it on some ramen noodles with mixed veggies and top with green onions! always turns out great 🙂
Hi Megan. I just got home from a Thai express place that’s take-out only, and discovered the peanut sauce that came with the chicken satay spilled in the bag and I need peanut sauce for the chicken satay. So I searched for a Thai peanut sauce recipe and that’s how I found this one. It’s very good. I opted for no extra sugar since our peanut butter is sweet enough. Thanks for posting this.
So happy you loved it!
Have tried a number of peanut sauce recipes, this is by far the most delicious!
So glad to hear that!
This is a yummy version for sure. Love it!
So glad to hear that!
This recipe was absolutely perfect! I added a bit (1/2 tsp?) of chili paste to it and it was just the right amount of spice. I substituted white vinegar for rice vinegar. I put this on a cabbage and veggie salad with rice noodles. So good!
So glad you love it!
This recipe was super easy to follow and soooo delicious. The sauce is flavorful and creamy. I used with Thai Lettuce Wraps and it was a big hit!
Great peanut sauce! Very easy! Thanks Meghan.
So glad you love it!
This was simply easy and so good. I will be making more and try on other food.
So glad you love it!
So delicious!!
I happened to have lots of peanuts, so I made my own peanut butter and it was great!
Thank you!
Enjoyed! How long do leftovers last in fridge?
Hi Hannah – I never have leftovers for longer than a day or two, but it should last about 3-5 days in the fridge.
Absolutely delicious. I used organic crunchy peanut butter and loved the extra crunch.
Had it with ramen noodles and assorted vegetables. Also plan on trying it with wings. Thank you so much for sharing the recipe!
So glad you loved it!
Water is ok but I substituted coconut milk warmed it up and mixed it in. Definitely recommend also one tablespoon of brown sugar if use peanut butter like the brand names. Overall super good and the grated ginger was a nice hint.
