Korean Ground Beef Bowls in a black bowl.

I’m back again with an easy weeknight dinner!  This time I wanted to make an easy ground beef recipe, since almost everyone has a package of ground beef in their freezer and thinks: “What can I make for dinner with ground beef?”

Well, I have a quick and easy ground beef recipe that you will love: Korean Ground Beef Bowls.  Your family will love these rice bowls and you will love how easy they are to make.

What is a Korean Ground Beef Bowl?

The idea around these Korean beef bowls is that you take the flavors of Korean beef bulgogi but take a shortcut and use ground beef.  It ends up being a delicious dinner that takes about 20 minutes to make.

Started with an easy ground beef stir fry – just brown the beef and add the sauce.  I served the beef over white rice and topped it with a sunny side up egg.  A garnish of sesame seeds and sliced green onions is optional, but makes it pretty.

Other than being fast, easy and delicious, another thing I love about this recipe is that it has ingredients you probably already have on hand, and are actually pretty inexpensive. Ground beef and rice recipes are classic for a reason! Would you like to see more ground beef recipes on the blog?  Leave me a comment and let me know!

These Korean Ground Beef bowls are an easy and quick ground beef recipe, perfect for weeknight dinners! The flavors of beef bulgogi made easy using ground beef!

Ingredients

For Sauce:

For Korean Beef Bowls:

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 3 green onions sliced, green and white parts separated
  • 4 eggs
  • 4 teaspoons butter
  • 1 ½ cups cooked rice
  • sesame seeds optional, for garnish

Instructions

  • Whisk together the sauce ingredients, set aside
  • Place a large pan over medium high heat on the stove. Add the ground beef and brown, breaking the meat up as it cooks until done, approximately 46 minutes.
  • Pour the sauce over the meat and bring to a simmer. Stir in the white parts of the green onions, cook for 34 minutes.
  • Meanwhile fry the eggs.
  • Heat a frying pan over medium heat. When the pan is hot add the butter. Once butter is melted, crack the eggs into the pan, being careful not to break the yolk. Reduce heat to low. Fry until whites are set and yolks are cooked to desired doneness, 45 minutes.
  • To make the Korean beef bowl: Add rice to a bowl, top with korean ground beef, then a fried egg.
  • Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.

  1. This is the new favorite at our house! Adventurous eaters and picky eaters all agree. We make it with ground turkey and it turns out great every time.
Thank you for this! I can’t wait to try some of your other recipes. 😊

  2. Delicious sauce! I made a double batch and put half in the frig for another night. My family loved it! Absolutely will make again.

Our family LOVES this recipe! It is cheap, simple/fast, and DELICIOUS. We’ve made it about 7x and it received high accolades from the family we meal trained it to. My husband and I spent nearly a year in Korea and we are always talking about how much we miss it and the food. This is not only a great recipe for those missing Korea but also a perfect recipe for introducing newer taste buds. Our kids, my teen sister, and her friends all have enjoyed this recipe! And many claimed to only like basic American food.

  4. Made this dish twice( so far!) and I have to say it’s easy to make and downright delicious!!! This is now a “go to” recipe in our house! Thanks for sharing it Meghan

  5. I’ve made this recipe several times. I have been using ground chicken and it’s delicious. Quick and easy dinner that my whole family will eat. Thank you for sharing!

We were missing the chili garlic sauce & sesame oil, but added grated carrot, extra fresh ginger and purple rice-quite yummy! Thank you for something new and different than our usual ground meat standards: spaghetti🍝with meat sauce, hamburgers🍔or taco🌮s. Even our eight year old tried it… Thanks again!

  7. This sounds delicious. I plan on making this soon, but do have a question. Do you drain the ground beef after browning? Then add the sauce.

  8. Great recipe, I used coconut aminos instead of soy, brown rice, and I added thinly sliced Serrano peppers for an extra kick!

  9. Great recipe! Loved it!! I didn’t have all the ingredients at the time, so I improvised a bit. I used ginger spice instead of fresh ginger, regular onions instead of spring onions, and sweet soy sauce instead of regular soy sauce and chilli garlic sauce. It turned out pretty good still! Great recipe!!

    Crowd pleaser for sure!!!
By far the best recipe I have found in a while. I shared this with friends and family and they loved the recipe as well. I didn’t have ginger so I omitted that but super yummy. My son who is a picky eater absolutely loved it and said this was his new favorite dish.

  11. Hi excellent quick meal. Just one question for the cup and half of white rice. Is that per bowl? Thanks again for the recipe.

    1. Hi Leo – the rice is to split between the four bowls, but of course you can use as much or as little rice as you like!
